Advent For the Family

December 20, 2012

It's Thursday!

Begin by lighting the same 3 candles as last evening.

Christmas Carol:

Away in a Manger

Away in a manger, no crib for a bed,
The little Lord Jesus laid down his sweet head.
The stars in the bright sky looked down where he lay,
The little Lord Jesus asleep on the hay.

The cattle are lowing, the baby awakes,
But little Lord Jesus no crying he makes.
I love thee, Lord Jesus! Look down from the sky,
And stay by my side until morning is nigh.

Be near me Lord Jesus,
I ask thee to stay.
Close by me forever,
And love my I pray.

Bless all the dear children,
In thy tender care.
And take them to heaven,
To be with thee there.

Bible Reading:

Isaiah 7

The Sign of Immanuel

10 Again the LORD spoke to Ahaz, 11 "Ask the LORD your God for a sign, whether in the deepest depths or in the highest heights."
12 But Ahaz said, "I will not ask; I will not put the LORD to the test."
13 Then Isaiah said, "Hear now, you house of David! Is it not enough to try the patience of men? Will you try the patience of my God also? 14 Therefore the Lord himself will give you [
3] a sign: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and [4] will call him Immanuel. [5]

Activity: Candy Train Ornament

Recipe Idea: Nuts & Bolts

6 cups cheerios
6 cups Shreddies
4 cups pretzels sticks
3 cups salted peanuts
1 1/2 cups margarine or butter
2 Tablespoons Worcestershire Sauce
1 Tablespoon celery salt
2 Tablespoons onion or garlic salt

Preheat oven to 200 degrees. In a large roasting pan, melt margarine or butter and Worcestershire sauce. Pour in cereal, pretzels and peanuts. Mix celery salt and onion or garlic powder, and sprinkle mixture over dry ingredients as you put the layers in the pan. Roast for 2 hours, mixing the nuts and bolts every 15 minutes. For best results store in freezer overnight.

Closing Prayer: The fact that Jesus was born to a virgin was a fulfilled prophecy because years before Jesus was born, a prophet named Isaiah predicted the event:

Isaiah 7:14 "Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. "

Did you know that Immanuel means "God with us?"

God is with us now, just as He was then. He is always near and you can always call on Him!

End with a GIANT GROUP HUG!
