Advent For the Family

December 4, 2012

It's Tuesday!

Begin by lighting the first purple candle on the wreath. Be sure and light the same candle as you did last evening.

Christmas Carol: Away in A Manager

Away in a Manger

Away in a manger, no crib for a bed,
The little Lord Jesus laid down his sweet head.
The stars in the bright sky looked down where he lay,
The little Lord Jesus asleep on the hay.

The cattle are lowing, the baby awakes,
But little Lord Jesus no crying he makes.
I love thee, Lord Jesus! Look down from the sky,
And stay by my side until morning is nigh.

Be near me Lord Jesus,
I ask thee to stay.
Close by me forever,
And love my I pray.

Bless all the dear children,
In thy tender care.
And take them to heaven,
To be with thee there.

Bible Reading:

Isaiah 40

9 You who bring good tidings to Zion, go up on a high mountain. You who bring good tidings to Jerusalem, [3] lift up your voice with a shout, lift it up, do not be afraid; say to the towns of Judah,
"Here is your God!"
10 See, the Sovereign LORD comes with power, and his arm rules for him. See, his reward is with him, and his recompense accompanies him.
11 He tends his flock like a shepherd: He gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart; he gently leads those that have young.

Activity: Cinnamon Ornaments Mix 1 cup cinnamon and 1 cup applesauce with 1 Tablespoon of white glue. You want a consistency that can be rolled with a rolling pin but not quite as sticky or it will stick to your counter! Sprinkle counter with cinnamon and roll out dough and cut with cookie cutters. Cut a hole in shape with the straw so you will be able to hang them. Let dry about 24 hours. They shrink as they dry. Cut lengths of gold thread, make loops and hang. they will keep their scent for a few years. Refresh scent with cinnamon fragrance oil.

Recipe Idea: Peanut Butter Snowballs

1 cup powdered milk
1 cup peanut butter
1/2 cup honey
1 cup raisins
2 cups coconut

Put milk, peanut butter and honey in a large bowl. Add raisins and squeeze. Shape into little balls and roll in coconut. Freeze for 10 minutes. Serve.

Closing Prayer: As you continue taking turns with the closing prayer, remember to discuss the events of the day with each family member. How is the month of December going for everyone? It's a good time to discuss that Christmas is the season of "giving" and not receiving. Think of ways your family can help others in your neighborhood and community this season. Ask God to lead and direct you as you seek to serve Him by ministering to those in need this holiday season.

End with a GIANT GROUP HUG!
