Advent For the Family

December 6, 2012

It's Thursday!

Begin by lighting the first purple candle on the wreath. Be sure and light the same candle as you did last evening.

Christmas Carol:

White Christmas

I'm dreaming of a white Christmas
Just like the ones I used to know
Where the treetops glisten,
and children listen
To hear sleigh bells in the snow

I'm dreaming of a white Christmas
With every Christmas card I write
May your days be merry and bright
And may all your Christmases be white

I'm dreaming of a white Christmas
With every Christmas card I write
May your days be merry and bright
And may all your Christmases be white

Bible Reading: Gen. 15:1-6

Genesis 15
God's Covenant With Abram
1 After this, the word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision: "Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, [
1] your very great reward. [2] " 2 But Abram said, "O Sovereign LORD , what can you give me since I remain childless and the one who will inherit [3] my estate is Eliezer of Damascus?" 3 And Abram said, "You have given me no children; so a servant in my household will be my heir." 4 Then the word of the LORD came to him: "This man will not be your heir, but a son coming from your own body will be your heir." 5 He took him outside and said, "Look up at the heavens and count the stars-if indeed you can count them." Then he said to him, "So shall your offspring be." 6 Abram believed the LORD , and he credited it to him as righteousness.

Activity: Christmas Snow Globes Spray paint baby food jar lid with a christmas color and let dry. Hot glue miniture ornament to the INSIDE of the lid so it is standing upright. when glue has completely dried, fill jar with water sprinkle glitter of any color into water. put a little glue around edge of jar and place lid back onto the jar. Let it dry completely before shaking it up.
OPTIONAL: You can spray paint another baby food jar lid and hot glue a musical push button inside it, then glue this lid top to top on the other lid with the music button facing out. then push the button shake up the jar and watch and listen to your christmas snow globe.

Recipe Idea: Snowballs 2 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs
1 package mini chocolate chips (or to your own taste)
1 can Eagle Brand sweetened milk
1/2 dozen cherries, cut into pieces
chopped nuts
shredded coconut

Mix together all the ingredients except the coconut and roll into balls. The balls should be about bite size. Then roll balls in shredded coconut. Enjoy.

Closing Prayer: Have you ever tried to count the stars in the sky as Abraham did? Go outside and look at the December sky. Imagine how masterful our Lord must be to have created such a masterpiece. The stars light our way at night just as Jesus lights our way in this world. Instead of counting the stars tonight, count the many times in your life when God has been there for you in a time of need. Thank Him!

End with a GIANT GROUP HUG!
