The Fruit of the Spirit!
A Printable Booklet

A Season of Change

It is the time of year that most homeschoolers start back to school. Fall is just around the corner and arrives on September 22, 2014. Maybe you are happy about your “school” starting back or maybe you are sad to say goodbye to summer. Fall is a season of change and a time to get reorganized and prepared for the season ahead. It is very important to prepare your mind and heart for the challenges that the new school year might have for you. Try to remember the “Fruits of the Spirit” when preparing your heart and mind for the school year ahead.

Daniel 2:21 New International Version (NIV)

He changes times and seasons; he deposes kings and raises up others. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning.
“Back to School” For Homeschoolers is of course a little different than heading back to a classroom. The great thing about being a homeschooler is that you are always learning about God’s wonderful world regardless of the season. But many homeschoolers do take a little break in the summer and fall is the beginning of their new school year.

“Run The Race”

1 Corinthians 9:24 New International Version (NIV)

The Need for Self-Discipline
24 Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.

God's Promises

This ”Back to School / Homeschool” devotion is FREE – All we ask is that you take the time to RATE the product and write a quick review.

We pray that as you and your child study this devotion on the promises of God that you will be blessed. God’s promises are for all of us and they are forever! God never changes!

Promises of God

Back to School / Homeschool

Fall officially begins on September 22, 2014 but most of us begin our homeschooling year before this date.

After a long summer, it is exciting to start a new school year! There is so much to learn about God’s great big world and the race to your new year has begun!

We learn in the verse above that “all the runners run” but only ONE will win the prize. We are told to run to WIN the prize.

This verse is teaching us about discipline. The definition of discipline is: strict training that corrects or strengthens mental ability or moral character.

In order to win the prize, we must be disciplined. In our schoolwork, it is important to set goals and then to be disciplined each day as we do our work.

Have A Plan!

Being organized will help you stay disciplined. It’s a great idea to design a daily schedule and always start your day with prayer. As you go through your day, it is so much fun to check off each task as you complete them.

Have goals – what do you want to learn? What is Mom or Dad trying to teach you? Make it a goal to try your very best when Mom or Dad teach you or assign you a task.

It is not easy to stay on task and staying disciplined – that is why there is only ONE winner :-)

Another reason it is important to try our best is because God has called us to a high standard and we bring GLORY to God when we do our best work!

Memory Verses

1 Corinthians 9:24 New International Version (NIV)

The Need for Self-Discipline
24 Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Philippians 3:13-14 New International Version (NIV)
13 Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
Try to commit these verses to your memory. Whenever you are having a hard day or a difficult time focusing, remember these verses. God wants you to be the BEST YOU that YOU can be. God wants you to always give your best effort and this will bring GLORY to Him.
We serve a wonderful God and He has made us many promises in His word.
What is the best promise in the Bible? The best promise started in the Old Testament when God promised to send a saviour. God fulfilled this promise in the New Testament when God sent His ONLY son to save the world.
John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
God's Promises
So, what have we learned? We know that in this race, ALL win run but only ONE will win the prize. We have discovered that it takes discipline to WIN the race. We also learned that it isn’t easy to stay disciplined and that we need God’s help and we need a PLAN!
We have learned that we should begin each day with prayer and that we should memorize verses that help us in our daily race.
We learned that we GLORIFY God when we try our best :-)
We know that God has promised us many things in the Bible. We know that we need to read the Bible and memorize these promises and hide them in our hearts. We know that God loves us very much and that He will never leave us or forsake us. We know that God will save us if we believe in Jesus and accept His gift on the cross for our sins.
When we pray, we need to BELIEVE that God will answer our prayer. We do not need to worry. Continue to pray and continue to believe and know in your heart that God loves you and will ALWAYS do what is best for you.
AMEN!
God’s Promises for Kids
Promises Kept – God’s promises for kids
Promises Kept – A Devotion for Kids
God's Promises
This free devotion is available at our Teachers Pay Teachers Store.
Download Here
This “Promises Kept” devotion is FREE – All we ask is that you take the time to RATE the product and write a quick review.
We pray that as you and your child study this devotion on the promises of God that you will be blessed. God’s promises are for all of us and they are forever! God never changes!
Promises of God
God’s Promises to Us
There are many promises from God in the Bible.
Do you know what a promise really means?  The definition of a promise is:
Promise:   a statement by a person that he or she will or will not do something, a cause or ground for hope
What we learn from the definition above is that a promise occurs when someone says something that he or she will or will NOT do. The definition also says that a promise causes a person to have hope!
The verses in the Bible, which came from God, give us hope! God talks to us in the Bible, which is HIS word. Every single word in the Bible is TRUE and the promises in the Bible are for YOU and for me!
The best thing about a promise from God is that He ALWAYS keeps His promises! Have you ever had a friend promise you something and then change his or her mind? Having a promise broken has happened to just about everyone. Once a person breaks a promise, it is then hard to trust them.
We can TRUST God completely because He always keeps His promises. He will never make a promise that He won’t keep!
Why can we trust that God can deliver His promises?
  1. God is omnipresent – This word means that God is EVERYWHERE
  2. God is omnipotent – This word means that God is ALL POWERFUL
  3. God is omniscient – This means God knows EVERYTHING
There are promises in the Bible for every situation that you may go through in life. There are promises for when you are sad. There are promises for when you are worried. There are promises for when you doubt. There are promises when you feel alone. There are promises for when you feel like sinning. There are promises for those who believe in Jesus and these are the best promises of all!
God is omniscient – now THAT is a really big word. Do you want to know what it means? This word means that God knows everything! When God gave the Bible to us, He knew that there would be times when we would need help or encouragement. God loved us so much that He sent promises thousands of years into the future to encourage YOU – yes YOU! He loves YOU and He wants you to know these promises.
It’s important to memorize as many promises from God as possible. When you are sad or scared, if you have memorized a verse, you can bring it into your mind and God will comfort you!
What is the best promise in the Bible? The best promise started in the Old Testament when God promised to send a saviour. God fulfilled this promise in the New Testament when God sent His ONLY son to save the world.
John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
There are promises for just about every situation in life!
God's Promises
Let’s look at some of God’s promises:
God’s Love for Us
Romans 8:38-39  ”For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
 Romans 5:8  ”But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
1 Peter 5:6-7  ”Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”
 God Promises Us PEACE
John 14:27  ”Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
 Philippians 4:7  ”And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
God Promises to PROTECT Us
Proverbs 1:33  ”but whoever listens to me will live in safety and be at ease, without fear of harm.”
 Psalm 121:7  ”The Lord will keep you from all harm – he will watch over your life”
God Promises to Comfort Us
Psalm 46:1  ”God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.
Matthew 11:28  “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
John 16:33  “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
God Promises to GUIDE You
Psalm 32:8  I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.
Isaiah 42:16 “I will lead the blind by ways they have not known,
along unfamiliar paths I will guide them;
I will turn the darkness into light before them
and make the rough places smooth.
These are the things I will do;
I will not forsake them.”
God Promises ETERNAL Life (We will live forever in Heaven with Jesus one day!)
John 6:47  ”Very truly I tell you, the one who believes has eternal life.”
John 11:25 “Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die”
 John 10:27-28  ”My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand.”
God Promises Salvation
John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
Romans 10:9-10 “If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.”
Other Promises from God
Jeremiah 33:3 “‘Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.’”
Philippians 4:19  ”And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”
Joshua 1:9  ”Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
 Hebrews 13:5 “Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”
All these verses are promises from God. God is trustworthy and we can have FAITH that God will do what He says He will do. Having Faith means believing in something even if we can’t see it. Sometimes we pray to God and we have to wait for His answer. Sometimes, God will say “No” to our prayer request or answer in a way we do not understand.  No matter how God responds, we can trust that He is doing what is BEST for us. The Bible says:
Romans 8:28 “And we know that all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”
So, what have we learned? We know that God has promised us many things in the Bible. We know that we need to read the Bible and memorize these promises and hide them in our hearts. We know that God loves us very much and that He will never leave us or forsake us. We know that God will save us if we believe in Jesus and accept His gift on the cross for our sins.
When we pray, we need to BELIEVE that God will answer our prayer. We do not need to worry. Continue to pray and continue to believe and know in your heart that God loves you and will ALWAYS do what is best for you.
Kids Bible Devotions
Ephesians 4:32
“Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.”
The definition of “compassionate” - sorrow or pity caused by the suffering or misfortune of another . The definition of “forgiveness” - to give up resentment of or claim to revenge for <forgive an insult>, to relieve a debtor of the duty to repay <forgive a debt>, to stop feeling resentment against (an offender) <forgive your enemies>
What the Bible verse above is saying is that God forgave us so we are to be kind and compassionate to others. We are to forgive them because God forgave us of our sins.
The Bible says:
Colossians 3:13
“Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.”
Once again, in the verse above, we learn that we are to forgive each other, even if we have a “grievance” against someone. This means that even if someone has done something wrong to you or hurt you in some way, we are still to forgive them. We are to forgive because God forgave us.
Is it easy to forgive? Sometimes it is very hard to forgive someone if they have hurt us or hurt someone we love. Without God’s help, it may be almost impossible to forgive some people. But God WILL help us to forgive others if we pray to Him and ask for His help.
It is important to remember that forgiving someone is not a FEELING. The act of forgiving someone is something that we decide to do because God told us to do so. We make a choice to forgive this person not because we “feel” forgiveness but because it is what God has instructed us to do.
Even after you forgive a person who has hurt you, you may still be sad inside. Sometimes it takes awhile to “feel” the forgiveness but with God’s help, you will get there!
Do you remember the story of Joseph in the Bible? Listen to the story of Joseph on Audio Bible right now.
Part 1 of Joseph’s story:  http://www.biblegateway.com/audio/mclean/niv/Gen.37
We learn in the first part of Joseph’s story that he was his father’s favorite son and that his brothers sold him into slavery.
The rest of Joseph’s story:  http://www.biblegateway.com/audio/mclean/niv/Gen.39-Gen.50
If you listen or read Chapters 37 – 50 of Genesis, you will learn that Joseph was betrayed by his brothers and sold into slavery. You will learn that God gave Joseph an ability to understand dreams. In Chapter 41, we learn that Pharaoh calls Joseph and ask him to explain his dreams. Joseph warns Pharaoh of a coming famine, which means NO food for anyone. Pharaoh gives Joseph a job of collecting food to prepare for this time and Joseph did as he was instructed.
It just so happens that the famine affected Joseph’s family who had sold him into slavery. They came to Egypt looking for food because they were starving. Joseph recognized them but they didn’t recognize Joseph. He sent them home with food and eventually told them who he was. Joseph’s family all moved to Egypt where Joseph continued to serve Pharaoh.
What we learn from these chapters in Genesis, is that Joseph made a choice to forgive his brothers after they sold him as a slave. Joseph could have made a different choice and allowed his family to starve. Joseph may or may not have “felt” forgiveness when he first saw his brothers, but he made a decision to forgive and the feelings followed.
Joseph did forgive his brothers and they all lived together until Joseph’s death.
Forgiveness is very important to God and He demands that we forgive others who have hurt us:
Mark 11:25
“And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive them, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins.”
Matthew 6:14-15
“For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.”
From the two verses above, we learn that God will forgive us when we forgive others. Even if we do not “feel” forgiveness towards another person who has hurt us, we can still choose to forgive that person and pray that God will send “feelings” of forgiveness to our hearts.
God loves us so much that He sent us His only Son to pay the price for our sins. He chose to forgive us even when we were still sinners.
Children's Bible Devotions
Romans 5:8
“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
Jesus loves you SO much that He willingly chose to die for you so that YOU would be forgiven!
When you are having a hard time with forgiveness, just remember the forgiveness that God has shown to you. If you have asked Jesus into your heart, then every sin you have ever sinned has been forgiven! This may make it easier for you to forgive others when you realize how much forgiveness has been given to you!
Thank you God for loving us and for sending us Jesus!
AMEN!
Cheerful Bears
2 Corinthians 9:7
“Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver”
The definition of “Give” - to make a present of, to make a donation, to grant or yield to another, to put into the possession or keeping of another
Have you ever heard the expression that it is better to give than receive? I know that we all love to receive gifts! It is very exciting to receive a present from a friend or relative. What you may not know is that the person giving the gift is enjoying the “giving” as much or MORE than you are receiving the gift.
Giving Bear
What we learn from the above verse is that God LOVES a cheerful giver. God doesn’t want you to give with a pouty attitude. God wants you to experience the blessing that comes from giving. There are many verses in the Bible about the blessings of giving. The Bible also refers to this as reaping and sowing.
When a farmer plants a seed, he will reap a crop. We learn in Galatians 6:7, “Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.”
We are told in Luke 6:38 “Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” God wants you to know that what you give, you will also receive.
Harvest Bear
When you give to others, Jesus will take your gift and make it even bigger!!! How is this possible? Remember, God loves a cheerful giver and He sees your heart when you give and God is pleased. God can take a very small gift and turn it into a miracle!
There are many ways to give to others besides giving money. You can give the gift of your service. For example, you could do someone else’s chore or offer to help a friend or neighbor. If you have older toys, you could donate those to less fortunate boys or girls. You could have a lemonade sale and donate the money to a charity. There are so many ways to give to others and to God.
You will discover as you start to give on a daily basis that your JOY will grow! The Bible promises us that we will reap what we sow. You can TRUST God! He is telling you the truth and you can always rely on Him.
Harvest Kids
Imagine the happiness you feel when someone gives you a gift and realize that YOU are bringing the same happiness to another when you choose to give.
It is up to each person to decide what to give. Give with a cheerful heart and get ready to be blessed and JOY FILLED!
