You're Invited!

A cookie swap is the perfect way to begin your holiday festivities. Who can resist a freshly baked cookie and a hot cup of cocoa!

Invite your friends to your house for the celebration. It's best to invite at least a week in advance to allow your friends time to get busy baking. Have each guest bring a dozen cookies for each guest you have invited. For example: If you invite 5 people, have each guest bring 5 dozen cookies - but don't forget yourself!

*** Have your guests bring a copy of their recipe for each dozen they bake.

Your partys success depends on the presentation. Have decorative Santa plates and cookie jars set out to greet your guests. Put your favorite Christmas CD on in the background to set the mood for everyone. Scented candles and the scent of steaming hot cider drifting from the kitchen is a nice touch also.

Besides hot cider, have other beverages on hand such as milk, coffee or juice. A few salty appetizers offer a nice balance to all the sweets that the guests will be bringing. Popcorn, chips, nuts are all good choices.

Younger guests will love Rudolph's Redineer Sandwiches:

Rudolph Sandwiches
Take a Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich, cut it crossways for a triangle! Then decorate it for a reindeer! With two raisins for the eyes, five or six raisins for the mouth, broken pretzel bits for the horns, and a red m & M for the nose.

Have lined boxes or sturdy decorative gift bags on hand for each guest.

If young children will be attending your cookie swap, a fun thing to do is set up a cookie decorating station. Have sugar cookies cut in shapes of trees, Santa, reindeer - you get the idea ;)

Have a large table covered with a Christmas tablecloth and all the supplies centered. It's a good idea to have plenty of wet paper towels around.

Supply your little cookie decorating Picassos with tubes of Christmas colored frostings and candies.

When the cookie decorating has commenced, tell your guests it's time to start swapping. Explain the procedure - each guest should select 1 dozen of each type of cookie and the matching recipe card.

Your friends will love you as they gather their goodies in their lined boxes and head home.
